The Antique Tile Quilt Block
The Antique Tile Quilt Block is a favorite quilt block for scrappy quilters. It is a great way to use up little pieces of fabric.
The colors in each antique block do not have to match, like in the picture above. You just need to get the value right.
As you can see from the picture at the left, the antique tile quilt block has 6 small patches across and down the block. They are all the same size.
The center of the block takes up 2 of the patches, so you just make it twice as big. You can also enlarge other patches, cutting rectangles instead of squares where possible.
If you are making this quilt with small squares that finish at 2 inches, you would cut them at 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. You would cut the rectangles at 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches, and the square in the center would be cut at 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches.
There are many ways to make this block, depending on the size of your scraps. You can strip piece where possible, to speed up the block. If your scraps are small, you can put them together one piece at a time.
This block great both for the beginner and for someone who has been quilting a long time and wants to make good use of their scraps.
