The Flower Basket Quilt Block

layout of flower basket quilt blocks

There are many quilt blocks that are called flower baskets.

the grids of the flower basket quilt blockThe one on this page is one of the easiest to make, and is also easy to make very scrappy.

This block is made of squares, rectangles and half square triangles. As you can see from the picture at the left, this block can be divided into 16 grids or patches.

The center of this block is a large half square triangle.  It takes up 4 of the grids.  If you want this block to finish at 8 inches, each patch or grid will finish at 2 inches.

Make the large half square triangle in the center to finish at 4 inches.  The small half square triangles would then finish at two inches, as well as the small squares.

When you sew the patches together, be sure and attach the patches on the side of the large half square triangle first.  Then do the top and bottom rows.  You can use a rectangle on the bottom row, or use two small squares.

Here is a visual of this quilt block with a few other novelty blocks.
