The Windmill Quilt Block

 windmill quilt blocks

The Windmill is another twirling 4-patch quilt block, similar to the pinwheel quilt block.

the grids of the windmll quilt block. It is an easy block to construct, as it is made with all squares and half square triangles. As you can see from the picture to the left, there are 8 squares, and 8 half square triangles.

Value is very important, as the windmill blocks must stand out.  In this block the corner patches are also darker.

This block has a lot of diagonal movement, which makes it a nice addition to a sampler quilt.  However, this block is often made with a white or light background, with various colored windmills.

Determine the sized of your patches, and make your half square triangles.  Cut your squares to match, and then sew them together using good piecing and pressing techniques, and you are done.
